Kaimin Mending Fences

Would like for the Kaiman to continue to be a campus entity and they certainly they dont need to kiss anyone's ass. They do have to remember that even for them there are repercussions for behavior and actions. There is certainly an agenda here led by or at least endorsed by the faculty. They look to be trying to make a point and purposely induce a confrontation which I assume they think they can win. Maybe they are all tenured and feel they can kind of get away with whatever they want. Whether they believe it or not the football program is an educational program as well. Many of these players want to go on to be professional athletes and coaches which also require education learned while playing football. Many are good students and plan to pursue other careers when their football career is over. The Kaiman is no more honorable of an endeavor than is playing football. If it comes down to football or the Kaiman I think the Kaiman will lose out. I really hope they arent trying to push it to that point.
An accurate assessment, by and large. From my "geezer" perspective, the problem with professional journalism (which I have studied extensively, as a writer but an outsider) all took off when Woodward and Bernstein (basically) brought down President Nixon (whose overall accomplishments, will, I think, be judged more positively by history than the media). Journalists have always been infatuated with scoring the next big scoop. For a mundane example, think of the hero in the movie It Happened One Night. His motive changed, but they started when he realized he had a “scoop” about a huge celebrity of the day.

But ever since W&B, a lot of journalists have been looking even harder than ever for the next scandal (real or manufactured) that will plaster their name in the headlines -- which will, basically, make them “part of the news.” A lot of “reportage” today belongs on what used to the the Editorial page. And, it seems to me, journalism schools have encouraged that attitude.

The Onion is the only newsworthy rag out there. Bet their journalism "professors" are proud of their work...and one would assume they didn't spend their working career in pubic radio or television...

Cowards. Which is literally the most offensive thing someone could say to me. They hide behind “free speech,” much like the kkk and white supremacy supporters. They claim their idea is constitutionally valid, however, they are spewing hate speech. If any of you Kaimin kids are here, I am calling you a coward in no uncertain terms. Half truth horse shit. Too short sighted to see past your own insecurities. Incomplete reporting from incomplete people. I say it again, you are a coward for your inability to handle truthful journalism. If being called a coward doesn’t bother you, you don’t have a clue about the world. You live in a me me me culture, but the me stands for menial. COWARDS

All the kvetching by local media (Kaimin, Missoulian) really makes you wonder. Who's the dean of the j-school and what might his or her agenda be? Hmm.

A dumb ass from berkley who spent over 20 years in public "media." As bad as the morons from harvard who made up the data from the Kolberg or Pygmalion Effect. "Elite" school research is biased and suspect on methadological grounds. That is to say, they cheat.

As an alum of UM, I am often have been disappointed in the Kaimin the last few years. Often do far more to hurt the University, than to help it.

This isn't the football loving town it used to be.

Nope. It’s full of crossbred California liberalism. Where feelings are more important than facts.
Nope, not a single football team in Ca anywhere you look...HAHAHAHAA

Truthfully? I’ve got no problem with Democrats. My problem is with the “progressive” left. And I think there is a HUGE difference. Just as I, as a conservative, find an incredible gap between myself and the “alt right”.

Huh.

You just wait till our resident FatBrunette gets hold of this post.

Infiltration doesn't even cover it...

This is where I fall as well.

WTF ever happened to the "gray" area? You know, the middle ground. Being reasonable...?

The Left has definitely vaulted the large cartilaginous fish.

There is really nothing to say about this article.

Go Griz!
Agree. Nobody should care at this point. Hauck was hired in spite of the hysteria. Run a good program, win a few more games, and treat reporters with respect (whether they deserve it or not), then everything will eventually even out and take care of itself.

Reminds me of a favorite saying of an old politician friend of mine: "Don't pick a fight with folks who buy ink by the barrel."

I agree with that. But times have changed. Now there is also the internet and social media.

So now some of the rest of us have a forum to express our views of the media, the Kaimin, and some of the little dickheads who sometimes write stupid, biased and dishonest articles.

At least, Tyson Alger comes to egriz sometime, both now and before, and there is some discussion. I respect him for doing that. Also, the Van Valkenberg kid recently.

I will be weighing in with the new President regarding who the Kaimin brings in as visitors and with some of the Kaimin stuff.

When Hauck asked the little Kaiimin kid to ask the first question at the press conference, he hesitated and could barely get a question out. He was one of the 4 who authored the Hauck article. My view is F him. I look forward to criticizing him everytime I see a weak or out of line article. Tucker.

Any chance to get a copy of the article posted on EGriz?

On the Kaimin website there is a poll asking whether you are Happy, Sad, Angry, or Ecstatic (my pick :D ) about Bobby's return. If we can vote on Monte for Mascot of the year we could certainly take over this poll. Wouldn't hurt.

Also - I would be willing to join in with a few reasonable folks in writing a response to the article. No name calling or labelling, just a different view with actual facts. If I could read the article first - I'm not in Missoula in the winter so I can't just pick up a copy.

btw - I do think that by next FB season this issue will probably go away. Especially if the team can avoid legal problems for a year. I'm thinking Hauck will hammer that point home - there will be no tolerance for any misbehavior, even if it is allowed to other students at times.
