UCLA/USC

This doesn't have a whole lot of new info, but I liked the quote by the UCLA AD: "If you're standing still, then you're falling behind."

https://www.ocregister.com/2022/07/07/ucla-ad-martin-jarmond-if-you-are-standing-still-then-you-are-falling-behind/

I subscribe, but I know there's a paywall. I think you get four articles free or something, so hopefully those interested can read it.

The real Hail Mary of an ACC-Pac linkup is to get Notre Dame/NBC in the mix.

Is that likely? No. This is something NBC often mucks up anyway.

But at least the Pac is taking a shot. Spent too many of the last few years being Larry Scott’s expense account.

Sounds like there might be even more reason to link up if this is true:

But......but............this is eGriz. Talking out your ass is what this site is all about. Check the algorithm.

 My bad, I'll try to follow the rules more thoroughly. Montana to the SEC!

That's never going to happen because in one of Saban's mandatory post-game conferences he was asked about expanding the playoffs and his response was: "I'm all for it as long as we don't have to go someplace like Montana."

Looking at UM athletic conference membership history, it’s a good bet we aren’t going anywhere. We have been in the Big Sky Conference 59 years with wonderful peers like Eastern Washington, Northern Colorado and Portland State. A great heritage, indeed!

If he actually did say that, it's based on the performance of teams from the south in the playoffs when they have to play in WGS, or even bobscat stadium. Huge advantage for the Griz or scats.

WHAT IF....

Pac-12 loses
Oregon
Washington
Stanford
Utah
Colorado

Take on
Wyoming
Colorado State
Fresno state
Boise State
Hawaii

Do you all want to move "up" to Mountain West if UM, MSU, Weber, EWU, and Sac State are the ones that get the invite? What about if it were NDSU, SDSU, MSU, UM and Idaho? My point is, if all these teams move over, and up, and around... You are left with a Mountain West that is pretty much all FCS schools.

I’m sure he would be concerned about playing the Griz in WGS.

I have a question that is seemingly unrelated and yet is probably center of a lot of things.

Did Missoula TV (and anywhere else in Montana, for that matter) run any ads with Grizzly athletes outside of just promoting games?

Compare to Drew Timme in his Gonzaga tank shilling for the Spokane casino all over Root Sports.

It’s poking around to understand whether NIL could be something that favors larger markets or, perhaps, certain sized markets. For instance, I find it hard to imagine that Portland State has any household names in Portland other than perhaps Bruce Barnum… and that’s more for his radio ads for PSU football.

I don't believe that players are allowed to wear team gear, or anything that says the university on it for NIL deals... At least that is what my company was told when we used Darian White in a commercail.

I just don't see this happening. The remaining PAC12 teams all want to stay with the top group, but the top group won't think too kindly of adding schools that will require a cut. I think it is most probable that the remaining PAC12 schools work something out with the Big 12 or ACC.

Interesting point that (I think) you’re making. A DT from UCLA probably isn’t drawing much interest in local commercials in LA. But he could be much more marketable in Pullman or Lubbock. Smaller markets might be more beneficial when it comes to local exposure. This is excepting Matt Leinart who was the legitimate king of Los Angeles for two years.

That said, I think a lot of the NIL money that isn’t pre-orchestrated is going to come from social media instead of local tv and radio spots. Like a punter posting a video on instagram saying, “When I tore my taint against UNI, I used Willy’s Taint Salve to heal, and I’ve trusted it ever since. Willy’s, for a tough taint. NotavailableinOregon.”

The larger share of NIL money will be in the medium to large markets that have the more talented athletes and sponsors generating the necessary revenue.
Not much NIL money will be spent on defensive tackles in Bozeman.

And yet it happened. https://youtu.be/qvzHWExBABk
(May have been a school-by-school thing, and last year was kind of the Wild West, so to speak. BTW, this was ad #2, and it’s funnier.)

Confession time: my daughter grew up on the same block with Darian during grade school years. So I’m curious if her ad is online at all.
