#37

Just asking a question (I know I am a Bobcat fan), but has a player that was given the #37 ever lost that number before?

PS.. I interviewed someone from East Helena, and said "You grew up in Helena" and before I could finish the question they interrupted with "NO..I didn't NOT grow up in Helena, I grew up in East Helena, make sure you get that correct".

Pretty sure no. Even with Carson Bender missing a LOT of time including his whole Sr season, he never lost it. Interesting side note though. He’s not listed on the 2009 and 2010 archived roster and 37 is missing from there. He is listed as 37 in 2008 though as a So after receiving it from Loren Utterback.

If speculation is true that it has something to do with Bobby wanting his son to get the #37 this would have to be BY FAR the dumbest thing I could think of to lose a team before the season is started. You don’t F with that tradition. And I’m a big Bobby supporter.

One thing maybe I could think of and it is COMPLETE SPECULATION. Maybe coaches know of potential off field trouble? That’s the one guy that cannot get into shit off the field.

With Welnel? Lol....no.

I'm not sure if rumors of Bobbie trying to entice Jace to pass #37 down to Robby are true or not (I've heard it from multiple people), but the toothpaste is out of the tube, no going back now.

Yeah I have no idea man. It’s just so strange. And if Bobby was in the middle of this for something that petty it would just be shocking. Even for Bobby lol.

all i know if Coach Hauck wants to interfere and make Jace give it to his son, that would be wrong IMO. Also you'd think Robby would be embarrassed to wear it after he wasn't rightfully passed down to.

Agreed and also, if a head coach ever called in a previous player who wore the jersey and gave them a small list of players who the coach thought should get it, (with their own kid on top of the list and let's say two other players who even "eGriz" wouldn't rally behind wearing it) that would just be weird. Robby didn't play high school football in Montana, we all get it... he was born in Montana. Every other #37 played high school football in Montana.

 *The above is just speculation of course

Props to Jace for getting out in front of it all and announcing who he wanted. Good on ya!

For the next GFP... which was handled worse by the coaching staff recently: The Zac Crews situation or the handling of the #37 jersey being passed down?

Robby wasn't born in Montana, either. He was born in Washington.

Yeah, but where was he conceived? That there’s the real test. I want all my 37s to have been conceived on campus, under the footbridge, or in Butte. Tell these damned out of staters to kick rocks. This here’s a man’s county and a place of welcoming. So any of these pretenders wanna take my 37 can get fuck out.

This makes a lot of sense.

This makes absolutely no sense! HIs legacy lives much longer and stronger as a member of an elite group of honorees steeped in tradition. Would make much more sense that the team creates an after season award in his name that can carry forward his unique legacy. The "37" lives because of all the men who have worn it ... to retire it would do all of them a disservice. Every year upon bestowing it on the new recipient I fondly look back at all those great players from teams past... I for one would hate to see that happen.

I was just saying it makes a lot of sense as to why this is all going on. I tend to agree I would prefer the tradition carry on.

Glad we agree!

You haven’t seen the video?

It should be a players' tradition, even though I believe the coaches have gotten involved a time or two previously. I want to know who the player is giving the jersey to. If the coaches want to get involved, they should pick another number and give it to they want. Maybe 00, signifying who cares.

my guess, and it's purely speculation, is that it has something to do with NIL and the program wanting to siphon some money off the 37 jersey because the number is worth more than the player himself. Just a thought

That being said, they had a month to figure it out before they went public with it on official accounts, so this is a very bad look for Hauck and they need to get it sorted out quickly.

Somewhat off topic, but has Marcus seen awarded a full scholarship yet? It sure seems like he has earned it, but last I knew he was still receiving a partial.

From what I've been told this has nothing to do with NIL, rather it is a desire by Bobby to get back to handing the jersey out to somebody that has it for 4 years -- the way it was traditionally awarded up until the past 12 years or so. This was very poorly handled by Bobby after the fact, even if Jace was told to wait and then went forward with his choice anyway. Although he is much more mature the second time around, Bobby can still be a stubborn SOB sometimes.

Egriz is a fickle b-word and has come full circle on BH.
Nowadays the biggest complaint about Coach Hauck is he’s being too transparent with the media and he chose not to take a chance on a kid with a questionable history.

When did UM ever have 4-year wearers of the 37 jersey? In the last 25 years, how many have worn for even 3 years? How could someone be picked to wear it for even 3 years? Many/most great MT players aren't even starters as sophomores.

What the hell is going on here? I know there are people close to the program that know exactly what's going on but apparently the fear of Bobby has kept them all silent. I guess if you dare piss off Bobby you done. This forum has turn woke and that's a shame.
