Post Game: The defense brings it home

Are people really happy about how the Griz played today against a team that has not proved anything this year?

Uhhh, I've yet to see a post by even one Griz fan saying they are satisfied.

Perhaps you're confused because we absolutely ARE happy that we're not cat fans posting on their rival's board pretending to be something we're not.

I think Stitt said it best. When asked about grading players performance he said he would give them a "W" because that's the only grade that matters.

I'd rather win and work on improving from there than having to improve to win.

That is all.

...you can get by...
...without an offense...
...you aren't going anywhere...
...without a defense...

... ...

The D had a few issues with some early big plays but shut out Davis in the 2nd half and forced 4 turnovers. ... Thank goodness for this defense, the players, the assistant coaches, and DC Ty Gregorak. The Grizzly d-line has been questioned a bit outside of Holmes and today they delivered big time. ...
So, Brint, how do you explain the 4 consecutive 1st&10s Davis ran on the Griz D on one drive in the 2d half?

They were sort of running @ will to start the half until the QB decided to throw it to the road jersey. And there were issues covering the running backs most of the game. In the radio pre-game, Ty was on the money with noting what he would do were he game planning for our D. Go big and run, or use the screen game. Both seemed to have success. Why they seemed so unable to stop it was interesting.

Brint, what about that?

is jansen healthy? can he play the slot? where is he on the depth chart these days?

Some posters have eluded that Janssen is in the dog house for some reason. Before the first game, Stitt was asked about him and he said that Josh was number two behind Nacarrato. Then the depth chart appeared a couple of days later and Lyons was 2. Nothing more has been seen or heard about Josh since that point.

thanks go96griz,,,,that helps me understand the situation much better,,,,i think jannsen was pretty effective when he was playing.....

Some people would bitch if they were hung with a new rope.

It has to be the farming influence. Growing up in Northcentral Montana, I used to listen to all the farmers bitch about too little rain, too much, etc. Then one year the conditions were perfect - you know what the complaint was? These conditions sure are taking a lot out of the soil! We apparently have some of those same farmers on this board.

Way to be a dick! What exactly was a complaining about, all I said was the screen is not a substitute for the run game. Because it isn't, it is taking advantage of what the defense is doing on the outside. We rushed for over 175 yards, and some people want to say we were using a screen as a substitute for the run. On screen passes yesterday, we targeted Chase 13 times and 10 were caught 3 dropped, and on those 13 he had 44 yards, for an average of 3.38, this is counting screens and swing passes. On 4 other types of pass plays he had catches totally 45 yards, so those yards would not count toward rushing yards.

I am sick of people cherry picking their stats, and as for being wrong about last years teams total yards a game, how many of those yards came from JJ trying to lead a 4th quarter comeback?

You DO know that they get to keep counting all yards gained right up until the final gun, right?

Brint, what about that?

They had 160ish yards of total offense that half with one long drive that ended in that red zone pick. Additionally the longest drive the Griz had on offense that half was about 4 minutes. Considering that UCD was on the field a ton and had one long drive, two moderate ones, and the rest short drives - all while the defense was having to come back out quickly.... Meh, it's all good.

Yes Davis had some success but after the one long pass the Griz for the most part took away big plays. They frustratingly allowed a lot of success with short passes but it's too much to ask this defense to be perfect.

Yeah, you DO know that UCD has 63 guys on scholarship too, right? They're probably gonna make a few plays.

We saw nothing new at all this week, maybe next week and we had over 400 yards again, remember last season we were lucky to get 300.
Anyone concerned with the facts would not remember that since it's just loose hyperbole. UM's average total offense in 2014 was 394.4 yards per game. It rounds to 400; not 300. The 2014 UM QB finished third all-time in both passing yards and TDs in UM's history.

Wait.... you can't use facts on this board.

Griz D: 35, 31, 20, 14, 13.....that's a great trend...

We should have a contest to find the next number in the sequence. 35, 31, 20, 14, 13......

Except that the 31 and 20 are not in the right order.

But that would change the favorable trend so they will just fudge it.
